The Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial: We Made It, At Last!

By going to Syracuse last night, it made the trip to the Joseph Smith Memorial Visitor Center only about a 6 hour journey.  We arrived there about 3:00 pm (Friday, Sept. 13) and were met by the Johnson’s (Center Directors) and a couple of the FM missionaries (Dyches) who were working in the area.   It was great to finally get to our destination!  Overall, nearly eight days and 3000 miles from the cabin to the Memorial.

We were immediately enchanted with the beauty and spirit surrounding this area.

The polished granite reflects the sun differently from various places

We visited for a while and took some pictures of the monument and the ruins of the home where Joseph Smith was born. Then we were escorted to our apartment by the other missionary couple (Osborn’s from Spanish Fork, also Rochele’s former Bishop).  We managed to get everything moved from the car to the inside of the apartment (just piled inside the door) and then had to look around to get an idea of where everything would go.  Our apartment is of the 70’s style-- wood paneling. wallpaper, etc. and to me it seems dark with the lighting basically done by lamps.

The home site is just to the left side of the monument.
